An Encounter With Jesus

Writer: Laurie KlimpleLaurie Klimple

"For she thought, If I can just touch His robe, I will be made whole" ( Matthew 9:21,ASV).

Throughout the Bible, there are many stories and great examples of people and their personal encounters with Jesus. One of the many such encounters is that of the Samaritan woman at the well (John 4: 4-42). This woman remains nameless, but yet her encounter with Jesus was so powerful, and ultimately life-changing. She could not contain what had taken place with her unplanned meeting with the Messiah. She full on ran to share her experience with others and thus became a disciple of Christ. She could not contain herself to share her testimony, her encounter with Jesus, to the Samaritan people. By sharing her story, many Samaritans became believers in Christ.

Another interesting example of an unexpected encounter with Jesus, was the story of the woman with the unresolved bleeding issue she had endured for over twelve years. She took a chance in a massive crowd to get to Jesus. She just wanted to encounter His presence to only touch the hem of His garment. She knew if she could just touch a remnant of His robe, a mere thread, she would receive healing. (Mark 5:24-34; Luke 8:42-48).

These nameless women are still making an impact today. They both endured heartache, shame, suffering, and hardship. But yet they are still encouraging and equipping others by sharing their personal encounter with Jesus.

Have you encountered Jesus? You certainly are not nameless. Have you shared your "Jesus encounter" with others?

So full of curious questions: Where were you when you encountered Jesus? What was the outcome? Did you allow this encounter to change you? Are you now a follower of Christ? Did you share it? Do you cherish that moment when you faced Jesus?

If you have never shared your "Jesus encounter", I encourage you to do so. How could you even keep this to yourself? Someone will want to hear about your encounter, and it will make a true impact on their life. Your encounter may be the very thing someone needed to hear to commit their life to Christ. Be bold and share your Jesus encounter today!

"But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect," (I Peter 3:15, NIV).

Father God, we praise You for allowing us to encounter Christ Jesus. Thank you for preparing the way and planning those 'unexpected encounters' with HIM. May we never be ashamed or hesitant to share those encounters with others to help establish Your kingdom. We love You, our Almighty Father. In Jesus' precious name we pray, Amen.
