Casting all...

While I was keeping my granddaughter one weekend, we were playing a game during bath time with her toy fishing pole. The toy had a magnetic line with a fish that also had a magnet attached to it. She would cast or release the line to catch the fish, then I would get a small, plastic net to scoop up her fish. We laughed and laughed about the fish not getting away with lots of big splashes.
This child's play got me to thinking later about the word casting/releasing. As I conducted a word search I began to locate many synonyms for the action verb cast: boot, chunk, fire, fling, hurl, launch, pitch, project, shed, sling, throw, expel, release, eliminate, vent, eject, toss, thrust.. Where am I going with this? I am going straight to revisit I Peter:5:7 (amp) "Casting all your cares [all your anxieties, all your worries, and all your concerns once and for all], on Him for He cares about you [with deepest affection, and watches over you very carefully]." You see I have hidden this scripture in my heart, so a simple child's game brought it to mind and I immediately went to the address in first Peter to soak in the Lord's assurances that are alive in His word.
We are instructed to cast all that concerns us upon Him and then to leave it. Don't scoop it back up to worry or fret about it any more. Throw that collection net away, let it go! Leave it behind with Him. He has instructed us to do so.
What do you need to release, boot, or cast to the Lord today? What are you carrying around that your weren't meant to carry? "The Lord is close to the broken-hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." (Ps. 34:18) Cast or choose another action verb from the list; sisters, let it go, release it, then leave all that "stuff" at the foot of the cross!
Once you cast it, and leave it of course, you will feel an instant relief and that is called peace. You will lighten your load, then allow God's word to sink deep within your heart to be the secure anchor for your soul.

Father, God. Forgive me when I worry and fret. I have come to know that worrying is disrespectful to you for it waters down my faith and wastes valuable time. Help me to take action and cast those worries and anxieties upon You and Your broad shoulders. Thank you for allowing me to release those cares and rest upon You and Your word. Thank You for loving me despite my human weaknesses. Thank You for Your Word that instructs me what I should do. Thank You for caring about me so much. I love you, Father. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
