What is discernment? How do we know if we have it? What do we do with it if we do have it? How do you get it?
Webster's Dictionary defines discernment as the quality of being able to grasp and comprehend what is obscure. The Bible shows us that discernment is an
understanding through Spiritual guidance.
Discernment is certainly not a material blessing, it is a great spiritual blessing from God. It is the one gift that will help you make wise, godly decisions and choices in every turn of your life. The only way to gain discernment is by spending time with God in prayer and through the study of the Holy Bible.
You must be intentional, deliberate, and fervent about hearing from God, this means you must seek Him first and foremost. "You will seek Me and find Me, when you seek Me with all your heart"
(Jer. 29:13). The reassuring news is, as a follower of Christ, the Holy Spirit is always speaking to you. Tune in and follow closely, and you will find your way to His voice. "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me" (John 10:27).
To discern the voice of God, You must be willing to take action to renew your mind. This world is so cluttered with constant distractions and confusion, that at times it can make hearing from God a challenge. Begin to make it a daily practice to renew, replenish, and refine your mind with the word of God. "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect" (Rom. 12:2).
The more you know about God, the more you will come to understand His ways, His desires, and His plans. He will also open your eyes so you're prepared for the challenges that will come your way. "I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble, but take heart I have overcome the world" (John 10:18).
When you have discernment, you have a greater sense of confidence and hope because you know that God is sovereign. He is ready, willing, and able to reveal His will to you and to protect you as you face every situation. "in my distress I cried to the Lord and He answered me" (Ps. 120:1).
God won't yell to get your attention. His whisper in the stillness - He speaks. Get rid of the clutter in your mind and calm your surroundings so you can discern the voice of God. Get started today, sisters, and be certain about discernment as you walk with the Lord.

Lord, open my eyes so I can see what You are showing me and teaching me according to Your word. May my ears be attentive to Your voice. I desire only Your true wisdom and not that of the world. I only desire truth that comes from knowing You and Your word. Thank You, Father, for Your word that teaches me true discernment. Teach me Your ways. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
