"Do everything without complaining, grumbling, and arguing" (Phil. 2:14).
Have you ever experienced being around someone who constantly complains, whines, grumbles, or is perpetually negative? You may have found yourself feeling down or even worn out from constantly trying to redirect the thoughts and conversation. When you leave the presence of that negative person, you may experience a dent in your spirit; it can be truly exhausting! Research shows that it takes anywhere from three to seven positive comments to override just one negative thought or comment.
May we be conscious that wherever our minds are engaged will shape the decisions we make and the influence we have.
"For it is [not your strength, but it is] God who is effectively at work in you, both to will and to work [that is, strengthening, energizing, and creating in you the longing and the ability to fulfill your purpose] for His good pleasure" (Phil 2:13, Amp).
We are reassured in God's Word that He is our strength, and He is at work in us to strengthen us, to energize us, and to fulfill His purpose in us. This truly equips us to overcome any negativity we may encounter on a daily basis. We also need to change our perception of ourselves and feel more empowered by the Spirit by believing the truth of who God says we are. Our heavenly Father says we are His children, divine masterpieces, children of Light, and citizens of heaven.
(See: 2 Cor. 5:17; Eph. 2:10; 1Pet. 2:9-10; 1John 3:1-2)
In order to overcome and resist negativity in our lives, we must see ourselves as our Heavenly Father sees us. A daily reminder for us is that we are His children and are spiritually alive in Christ. We must live accordingly, next to our knowledge of God, grasp the knowledge of who we are is the most important and empowering truth we can possess. The more we affirm ourselves as to who we are in Christ, the more or lives will begin to reflect our true identity, and negativity will cease to exist.
Father, God. Thank You for our identity in You through Christ. Just knowing the depth of Your love and the plans You have for us is enough to overcome negativity in our lives. Thank You for Jesus, our positive Role Model. We honor and glorify You, Father. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
