God's Word Vs. Itching Ears

"Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path" (Ps.119:105, Amp).
Take my word for it. Would I lie to you? I'm telling you the truth. You have to believe me...blah, blah, blah...
Sound familiar? We've all heard these phrases before. We have taken in other's words only to find out later that what we heard was not the truth. It's common for others to say things they think we want to hear or that would tickle our ears. Some people seem to think they have all the answers and that what they have to say is valid and that our ears are itching to hear what they have to say. Sometimes it may be, but we must be ready to discern what the truth really is according to God's word, for His word is quite clear and always truthful. "I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you" (Ps.119:11, NIV).
I've heard pastors encourage their listeners to check out the word of God for themselves and not just take their word for it. I respect that encouragement to see what God's word has to say about what they may be teaching. It's imperative for us to always decipher what is real and what is not. The absolute truth of God's word is time treasured and truly unchanging. "Listen to His instructions,
and store them in your heart" (Job 22:22, NLT).
Worldly truth changes every day with every whim and with every opinion of others. Truth is distorted and lies are justified to fit people's circumstances or to camouflage sin. What is desired by the flesh verses sound doctrine and confirming one's desires verses the truth are daily battles a child of God faces. But just know that God's truth and promises are steadfast, unchanging, and uncompromising. "The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever"
(Is. 40:8, Amp).
God's word will never fade away or lose its power, it remains true forever. This earth is temporary, but God's word is our strength and hope forever. It's our constant, true guide. Don't allow what suits you or may tickle your ears to drive your preferences and desires of the flesh. Never reject sound doctrine for what may sound good to the ears. Read, soak in, discern God's unchanging word of truth in the one and only book of life; then hide it in your heart for safe keeping and referencing. What are you itching to hear? Let the word of God be what you hear not what the world wants to say.
"For, all flesh is like grass, and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers and the flower falls off, but the word of the Lord endures forever.” And this is the word [the good news of salvation] which was preached to you" (1Pet.1:24-25, Amp).
Most loving, heavenly Father, thank You for Your unchanging word of truth You prepared for us. May we be in Your word daily and constantly so that we undoubtedly know Your word. May it become so familiar to us that is written on our hearts and etched in our minds. We love and honor You, Father in the Name of Jesus we pray, Amen.
