Mission: Imitation

"Therefore become imitators of God [copy Him and follow His example], as well-beloved children [imitate their father]"

(Eph. 5:1, Amp).

I get amused watching my grandchildren mimic or imitate their parents. They are like sponges absorbing everything they see and do. It amazes me that they will even imitate their parents' verbal and facial expressions. I once watched my three year old granddaughter raise her little hands in worship as she watched her mother worship. I have on occasion even heard my own daughter say, "I sound just like my mother!"

Just as a child imitates their parents, we are to imitate God, our heavenly Father, we are after all His well-loved children. Throughout Scripture we are reminded to imitate Christ. Jesus loved, taught, showed mercy, provided grace, served others, and much more. He profoundly spoke truth about who He was and what His earthly mission was all about. As our Big Brother and heavenly sibling, we are to look up to Him and to imitate Him in our earthly lives in all that we do.

Our Father has called us into action; He put us on active duty:

We are to focus and reflect Christ not self.

We are called to disciple, mentor, and demonstrate what a Christ-follower looks like.

We are to have the internal mindset of Christ.

Most importantly, we are to take up our cross daily to grow and mature spiritually as we become more like Jesus!

We are not called to accept Christ and then never model Him for others to know Him. We are not called to be idle and just go on with our earthly lives. We are not called to be benchwarmers, we are called into action.

The apostle Paul reminds us "Imitate me, just as I imitate Christ" (1 Cor.11:1, Amp).

I challenge you to be a true follower of Christ and to imitate Him in word and deed. Teach others about Him and then show them how to imitate Him and to grow spiritually in Him.

Father, we love and adore You. Thank You for Jesus, our model, to imitate. Lord, help us to remain strong and grow in our walk with Christ. May we reflect You in our lives and not sit idly by and miss any opportunities You put before us. In Christ we pray, Amen.
