My God, My Rock

Rock painting is a popular hobby for many these days. Also, placing painted rocks with scriptures or the plan of salvation painted on them for others to find is a favored thing, too. I have seen some beautiful, artistic work done on rocks of all shapes and sizes. There are even rock painting groups you can join.

I have often wondered why rocks are significant. Here is what I do know about them:

  • There are three types of rocks: Igneous, Metamorphic, and Sedimentary.

  • Some rocks are made solely of minerals.

  • Geology is the study of rocks.

  • Rocks from space land on earth.

  • Many useful things are made from rocks.

God created them all is the most interesting of all rock facts! Rocks are a formed, solid, firm and foundational substance. How interesting that rock is mentioned 128 times

and the word stone is used 367 times in the Bible.

The Psalmist describes God as His rock. "From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I" (Ps. 61:2, NIV).

Throughout the Psalms, the writers pair rock with salvation, defense, strong tower, refuge, and unyielding strength.

Let's look at some other "rock scriptures":

"He will lift me up on a rock (above, high, and solid)" (Ps. 27:5c, Amp).

"But God is the rock and strength of my heart and my portion forever" (Ps. 73:26b, Amp).

"Truly He is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress, I will never be shaken"

    (Ps.62:2, NIV).

"He only is my rock and my salvation; My fortress and my defense, I will not be shaken or discouraged" (Ps. 62:6, Amp).

"On God my salvation and my glory rest; He is my rock of [unyielding] strength, my refuge is in God" (Ps.62:7, Amp).

"My salvation and my honor depend on God; He is my mighty rock, my refuge"

    (Ps. 62:7, NIV).

In Matthew 7:24-27, Jesus shares one of His parables in which He contrasts two home builders, one is wise and the other is foolish. The wise man realizing the importance of a strong, permanent foundation, built his home on rock. The foolish man built his home on temporary, sinking sand. It doesn't take a professional home builder or carpenter to see whose home weathered the storm and all its devastation. Build your foundation on the Rock Jesus Christ, the only permanent foundation for your life now and in the future!

Trust confidently in Him. It's rock solid, biblical advice! God is solid like the rock He created; He is our firm foundation. So, rock on with God.

Dear Father, our Rock, thank You for reminding us of Your firm foundation on which You set for us. Lord, help us to hold on to You. Thank You for all of the reminders in Your word that You are the solid rock on which we stand. Thank You for being our refuge, strength, and fortress. We praise You for never letting us down. We love and honor You. In Jesus" Holy Name, Amen.
