"But [we are different, because] our citizenship is in heaven. And from there we eagerly await [the coming of] the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ"
(Phil. 3:20, Amp).
Many people obtain a passport to allow them to travel from country to country. At one time it seemed like a fad to even have one, it seemed like something exciting to have since everyone was doing it whether they planned to travel or not. So, I decided that since traveling to see and tour Italy was on my bucket list, I may need to eventually get a passport for myself. Well, I actually have a trip planned this spring to visit several islands while on a cruise. It was highly recommended by the cruise line that I obtain a passport. So went the adventure to obtain a passport. Making an appointment, locating my birth certificate and proper identification, and driving to the passport office in the neighboring town. (This feat actually took three different attempts to finally obtain a passport).
It occurred to me on the way to turn in my application and required paperwork for the third time, that where I truly longed to go, Heaven, doesn't require a passport to get in. No one will be at the gate checking me in, stamping my passport, or verifying my identity. When we accept Christ as our personal Savior, our passport has been by-passed, our heavenly reservation was made, and our citizenship was established!
"For we are His workmanship [His own master work, a work of art], created in Christ Jesus [reborn from above—spiritually transformed, renewed, ready to be used] for good works, which God prepared [for us] beforehand [taking paths which He set], so that we would walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us]" (Eph. 2:10, Amp).
While you are still on this earth waiting for your destination, work on your future travel plans: Remain faithfully obedient to the Lord, commit to follow Jesus daily, spend time in God's Word, strengthen your prayer life, and work to become a disciple for Christ. While there are many others still out there fretting about getting a passport, there is your chance to become the disciple they need to lead them to Jesus. There is no passport required to follow Jesus or to enter into heaven, the only final destination.
Father God, thank You that our reservations have been made with You in heaven when we depart from this earth. We praise You for Jesus making the way. Thank You for loving us so much. We honor You, Father. In Christ, Amen.
