Jesus answered them, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor—sick people do. I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners and need to repent” (Luke 5: 31-32, NLT).
It's quite common these days to be seen by or placed under the care of a P.A. (physician's assistant) when seeking medical assistance. They provide a wide variety of medical services under the direct supervision of a licensed physician. P.A.'s work in various medical settings collaborating with physicians and other healthcare workers to provide adequate patient care. They have crucial responsibilities to care for their patients: to examine, diagnosis and treatment, prescribing medications, performing procedures, assisting in surgeries, patient education, and the list goes on.
Our role in working with the Great Physician is quite similar that that of a medical P.A. We are all assigned to be a P.A. under the direct supervision of the one and only Great Physician. In Luke's Gospel account, Jesus is compared to a doctor for the sick [sick with sin]. Jesus examines the hearts and lives of the sick; we are to assist Him in their treatment plan for spiritual healing and full recovery - salvation!
We have been called to separate ourselves from sin, certain behaviors, and attitudes, but not from people who have these maladies. We once, ourselves, were sick in sin, but Jesus healed our infirmaries when we were saved. Now it's our role to assist Him in the treatment plan to save others' souls. May we value others enough to have a heart for them as Jesus does. May we always remember the healing power of Jesus. Just go back and read about how He miraculously healed people in the gospels of the New Testament (Matthew, Mark Luke, and John). Grab your stethoscope and let's go out and assist the Great Physician treating and healing those who are sick in sin. With Jesus as our Supervising Physician, we can bring others to Him for complete healing. Go - save a life today!
"He restoreth my soul" (Ps. 23:3a, NKJV).
Father God, the Ultimate Physician, may we lift up all those who are sick in their sin. We pray for their souls that they may come to know You, love You, and serve You. May we have a servant's heart to serve. May we assist You by bringing the spiritually sick to you for healing. Thank You, Father, for using us as Your assistants to help build Your kingdom. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
