The "Sonflower" as seen through 'Eyes of Faith'

Updated: Sep 12, 2024

"You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart"

(Jer. 29:13, NIV).

As I sat gazing out toward our garden one morning, I noticed a very tall sunflower that had surpassed all the other plants and fruit trees in height and stature. It had been planted as a mere seed just a few months earlier. It now towers over everything in the garden measuring in at eleven feet in height! As I continued to observe the massive beauty, I noticed that it had three flowers that bloomed at the very top facing upward toward the heavens. I couldn't help but notice the simplistic beauty of this God-created flower that reminded me of the Trinity: Father, Son, and Spirit (3 in1).

I was amazed that by just observing this "Sonflower" in nature, I could be reminded of the very essence of our Lord God. That is when I decided to see, notice, and observe through 'eyes of faith'. I began to look around for other things I could see of God. I saw a beautiful blue dragonfly on the fence fluttering its wings in the breeze. Later, I noticed a red-headed woodpecker going in circles around the trunk of a tree looking to begin his routine for finding food. Suddenly a breeze picked up, the clouds darkened, and raindrops fell from above onto the dusty ground.

I was then reminded of God's provision for His beloved creation. When I glanced back at the "Sonflower", I smiled as I followed my eyes upward to the top of the stalk where I was reminded of God's provision of our Savior Jesus Christ for us. The tall stalk and outcroppings of the stems and leaves suddenly reminded me of the cross. Wow, when I see through 'eyes of faith'!

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you" (Matt. 7:7, ESV). (Open the eyes of our hearts, Lord. May we see with fresh, new 'eyes of faith').

It is the simple things that can remind us of our God if we choose to see through 'eyes of faith'. I encourage you to see God in the little things as well as the grandeur things. He is there - just notice, look for, and acknowledge Him as you spend time with Him. Seek Him in everything - you will see that He is there!

I love those who love Me, and those who seek Me diligently find Me." (Prov.8:17, ESV)

“I revealed Myself to those who did not ask for Me; I was found by those who did not seek Me. To a nation that did not call on My name", I said, ‘Here am I, here am I’ (Is. 65:1, NIV).

Father, may we seek to look for You and see You in everything. Bless our 'eyes of faith' as we diligently seek You each and every day in everything and in every way. Thank You for the little things we train our eyes to see You in. Thank You for Your daily provisions. Thank you for Jesus our Savior. In His Name, Amen.
