The Waiting Room

Updated: Aug 9, 2024

The waiting room is not always a pleasant place to be. I would imagine all of you have at some point been there. While we wait we fidget, pace, scroll through our phones, flip the pages of a magazine, people watch, or stare at the clock on the wall, anything to pass the time. Waiting on the Lord can sometimes be overwhelming. But remember God's timing is not our time, and neither are His ways our ways. (Is. 55:9)

God's Word can teach us to wait patiently and to confidently expect. Waiting can be precious time you spend with the Lord as you grow in trust, faith, and praise. We also grow in strength in the wait. (Is. 40:31)

II Corinthians 5:6-8 shows us that while we wait, we will be filled with good courage and confident hope while we wait on God. We are to walk by faith and not by sight, (stop looking at the clock). Live our lives with the confident belief in God's promises, and be bold with courage as we confidently wait and trust with hope in Him.

"Wait for and confidently expect the Lord; be strong and let your heart take courage; yes, wait for and confidently expect the Lord." (Ps. 27:14) "Confident Expectation"

The kind of waiting the psalmist speaks of is not passive as though our spiritual lives are put on hold until God comes through with our requests. It is an active display of faith as we lay down our desires, hopes and dreams before the Lord and surrender to His will. In the waiting, He is perfecting our faith and building our character.

What are you waiting for God to do? Be encouraged to trust in His will, His way, and His timing. He loves you dearly, sisters, and He truly knows what's best for us all. Therefore wait upon Him with confidence and hope, because He would never betray your trust.

"Trust in God includes faith in His timing." (Hab. 2:3)

"When the time is right, I, the Lord, will make it happen." (Is. 60:22)

Father, I come with a repentant heart. I have not confidently waited on You and the timing of Your will for my life. I have selfishly tried to go before You. Forgive my fruitless attempts to make things happen in my life and in the lives of others that I pray for. Thank You for Your word that teaches me how to wait on You and Your perfect will, way, and timing. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
