Yearn to Learn

Updated: Aug 17, 2024

As a new school year begins and students are eager to return to school, or begin for the first time, there is an air of excitement: to see old friends, check out their new learning environment, use their new supplies, make new friends, and of course learn new things. Young children seem to have a 'yearning for learning' new things and to discover and uncover concepts they never knew. They enjoy exploring new things as their young minds absorb new knowledge.

We as believers in Christ should have the same mind-set "yearn to learn". A true yearning to learn more about Jesus, who He is and what He has equipped us to do.  "God has put all things under the authority of Christ and has made Him head over all things for the benefit of the church. And the church is His body; it is made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with Himself" (Eph. 1:22-23, NLT).

Here are some "yearn to learn" skills:

Reading: Read His word daily and comprehend what He is saying to you.

Writing: Write His word on your heart and let it seep deep within you.

Arithmetic/Math: Spend time every day to study and pray with Him. Assess the '3 in 1' Rule = (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit). You need Him 24/7.

Listen: Listen and hear what God says to you and follow His directions and promptings.

Speak: Talk to others about Jesus; share what He has done for you.

Science: Observe and take note of how God is all around you; notice all of His creation.

Social Studies/History/Government: Acknowledge Jesus as your king, ruler, or president over you and your life.

Study: Prepare and work on your testimony for the upcoming test or exam.

If you don't really know Jesus, "yearn to learn" all about our Savior!

"Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened" (Matt. 7:7-8, NKJV). He is the one true answer for all of life and life's questions.

God has equipped us with a magnificent brain. He has given us an invincible spirit, because as believers we have God's Spirit within us. Our souls have true satisfaction and real peace as we learn more about Him. When you lack understanding, just ask God to give you wisdom. "If any of you lacks wisdom [to guide him through a decision or circumstance], he is to ask of [our benevolent] God, who gives to everyone generously and without rebuke or blame, and it will be given to him"(James 1:5, Amp).

Be encouraged - 'yearn to learn' more and more about our God and how much you need Him. Life makes no real sense without Him. Seek to learn what He has prepared for you to understand and do in your life. You can reach your potential and learn much by keeping your heart set on Him. He is always ready to respond to you and He will send the wisdom you need for success.

"The [reverent] fear of the Lord [that is, worshiping Him and regarding Him as truly awesome] is the beginning and the preeminent part of knowledge [its starting point and its essence];

But arrogant fools despise [skillful and godly] wisdom and instruction and self-discipline"

(Prov. 1:7, Amp).

"Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding" (Prov. 3:13, NIV).

Father God, we praise You! You are the source of all wisdom and understanding. As we 'yearn to learn' more about You, show us Your guidance and direction for our lives. We love You and we honor You, Father. May we always look to You, the one true source of all knowledge, wisdom, and power. In Jesus mighty name we pray, Amen.
